Nightrider has been working on an upgrade for the 2010 Harley Touring bike to allow the use of the OEM 2010 peanut sensor in older, standard size O2 sensor bungs. This kit would effectively allow a rider to relocate the OEM 2010 narrow band O2 sensors using any 2009 or earlier exhaust system that will fit on your Touring bike. I know there is interest in using older style exhaust systems on the 2010 Touring bikes and relocating the O2 sensors on these bikes. This upgrade kit would allow that to happen.

Exactly what does a typical ECM fuel map look like on one of the closed loop Harley-Davidson systems? Here is a chance to take a closer look at a typical emissions controlled fuel map just as HD provides them to their customers. It will give you a lot of insight into the inner working of Harley, EPA requirements and a better idea why Nightrider XiED's are as effective as they are on these bikes. This will show you the critical portions of the ECM fuel, bias and ignition maps for the 103 Stage 2 download and the Stage 1 download. The Stage 2 is the upgrade that includes the SE-255 cams, so it would be considered a mild performance upgrade. The Stage 1 Download is the upgrade Dealers push so hard for riders to get if they upgrade exhaust and air cleaner. Both these upgrades are valid 50-state legal modification.
For Riders with SERT, SEST or TTS, there is nothing new here. For riders that do not have a software tuner, the information can be quite interesting.

The latest round of XIED testing on the 2009 HD Touring Bikes has been showing some positive results. Testing is expected to continue until the end of November with final results published in December 2010.
If results test remain positive, we would be able produce an updated XIED Certified for the 2009 HD Touring Bikes. Keep watching Nightrider.com or this web site for updates.

Selecting cams for a performance project on your Harley-Davidson engine can be a quite a task. Trying to figure out which Manufacturer and which cam to use just gets more confusing. Looking for those subtle differences between different cams can be almost impossible unless you can see the specifications side by side. Here is an opportunity to compare the specs of those cams.

I have some test results on the Buell VIED on bikes with the DDFI-3. This covers the 2008-2009 X-series Buell's. The testing was performed by a H-D mechanic in a Dealership in Canada. This was a comprehensive test, providing slightly different results than early model bikes with the DDFI-2. Listed below is his e-mail message back to me:

For a while it looke like late 2009 production Touring models might be able to use the XiED's. I started a new test period to validate this possibility. After additional testing, I found that these late manufacter bikes were not able to use the Inline Enrichment Devices with any more consistency of results than the earlier 2009 Touring bikes. But during this same time, a lot of new information has been discovered. For 2009 Touring bike Riders, what was discovered is a combination of good and bad news.

Some Technical people I trust reported a potential wiring and ECM connector problem on the late model Harley-Davidson Touring bikes through other channels. This issues is something that others have probably found on some of TC96/103/110 Touring bikes. These wiring problems can cause Check Engine lights to occur and possible engine running issues.
While any unconfirmed report like this should be treated cautiously by any rider, there is strong circumstantial evidence to support this information. There were reports within 72 hours of additional 12-14 2009 and possbily two 2010 Touring bikes exhibiting the symptoms described in this article.

The 2010 Dyna, Softail and Sportsters use the current XiED's. These bikes use the same XiED, X14iED, ViED and AFXiED's as the 2007,2008,2009 motorcycles. The various Inline Enrichment Devices provide closed loop fuel mixture richening for the 2010 Harley-Davidsion's to bring the AFR from the OEM 14.6:1 to as rich as 13.7:1, depending upon the product.

There are multiple reports of XIED's being used on late manufacture date 2009 Touring Bikes without any of the issues encountered when the bikes first came out. Here is what we have learned.

I have been asked for a simple way to test the various XIED's so riders can verify they are working correctly.
